First Steps Early Intervention
If your baby or toddler is having trouble reaching milestones like walking, talking, or playing, First Steps can help. First Steps is here to support you and your child during these important early years—so you don’t have to figure it out alone.
What It Is:
First Steps is a program for Mississippi families with children from birth to age 3 who may have a delay or a diagnosed condition (like Down syndrome, hearing loss, or autism). It is run by the Mississippi State Department of Health and funded by a national law called IDEA Part C.
What It Offers:
- Free developmental evaluations to see how your child is growing
- Help from experts like speech therapists, physical therapists, and other specialists
- A personal plan called an IFSP (Individualized Family Service Plan) just for your child
